.shotlist files

Save your list as a .shotlist file and reopen it later exactly as it was. Comments, stars and replaced thumbnails are kept.

Save and reopen

Use the File menu.

Menu Key (Windows) What it does
New window Ctrl+N Opens another window
New Project Ctrl+P Starts with an empty list
Open Project... Ctrl+O Opens a .shotlist file
Open Recent — Chooses from the last 10. "Clear Recent" at the end clears the list
Save Project Ctrl+S Saves over the file
Save As... Ctrl+Shift+S Saves under another name

On Mac, use ⌘ instead of Ctrl.

What is saved

The media files themselves are not included. A .shotlist file only remembers where the media is.

Per-project settings

These settings are saved in the .shotlist file and used only while that project is open:

Language, theme, font size, the list of column presets, playback settings and so on remain app-wide settings.

Changing settings while a project is open changes that project's settings. The settings line at the bottom of the window shows "Settings: project <name>" with the number of settings that differ from the defaults. With no project open, it shows "Settings: app defaults".

If the media can no longer be found — for example, after copying the folder to another drive — the status line shows the number of rows with missing media when you open the project.

  1. Right-click the list → "Relink Media Folder..." (or Settings → "Change Import Media Directory...").
  2. Choose the new location of the folder you originally imported.

If the folder structure is the same, every row is reconnected. Thumbnails are not rebuilt.

Rows with missing media can still be viewed, commented on and exported to xlsx and images. Playback, rebuilding thumbnails and cut detection are not available for them.

File association

After installing, .shotlist files get their own icon and open in ShotList2 when double-clicked (Windows and Mac).
